Security Systems for Retail Shops
A shop has a different threat profile to an office. The front door is open to the public by design, the stock is on display, the till is a target, and the staff on shift are often young, part-time and alone at closing. Security has to work without a security team.
For retail we start at three points: the entrance, the register and the stockroom. Entrance cameras positioned for usable faces rather than tops of heads. Register coverage that shows the drawer and the customer side of the counter, which resolves disputes as often as it catches theft. A stockroom door on access control so it cannot be propped and so you know who went in and when.
After hours the same system becomes a monitored intrusion alarm, with contacts on the doors, motion in the sales floor and glass break on the display windows. Staff get a duress button within reach of the register. You get smartphone alerts that name the zone, not just the building.
This applies whether you run one shop or twelve. Multi-site retailers get one login across every location, with alerts routed to whoever is actually on call that week.
Security Systems for Offices
Office security is mostly an access problem. The building may already have a lobby and a front desk, but the moment you have more than a handful of staff you need to know who can get into which space and at which hours, and you need to be able to change that in seconds when someone leaves.
SEH Security installs access control on suite entrances, server and comms rooms, records storage and any door that separates staff space from public space. Credentials can be cards, fobs, keypad codes or mobile phones, and you can mix them by door. Onboarding a new hire and offboarding a leaver both take a few clicks rather than a locksmith.
Cameras cover entrances, corridors and shared equipment areas. We deliberately do not point cameras at desks. Coverage that feels like surveillance of your own staff costs you more in morale than it returns in security.
Add a video intercom at the main suite door and deliveries stop being an interruption: whoever is nearest can see who is there and release the door from their phone.
How to Choose a Small
Business Security System
Most small business owners are comparing three things at once: a DIY kit, a national alarm company on a long contract, and a local integrator. They are genuinely different products and the right answer depends on your building, not on which one has the best advertising.
1
DIY kits
suit a single small room with a simple layout and a low loss exposure. They are cheap, you install them yourself, and you own the equipment. The trade-off is that nobody is monitoring them, coverage design is on you, and they rarely integrate with door hardware or existing cabling.
2
National alarm providers
give you monitoring and a recognisable name. The trade-offs are long contracts, equipment you lease rather than own, limited system design, and a service model where the person who arrives has never seen your building before.
3
A local commercial integrator
designs to your building, owns the install, handles permits and inspections, and sends people who know your site. It costs more up front than a kit and it is worth it once you have more than one door, more than one shift, or stock and equipment worth protecting.
